Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 833 AM EDT Sat Aug 18 2018 Valid 00Z Sun Aug 19 2018 - 00Z Sun Aug 26 2018 ...Major Hurricane Lane effects to threaten Hawaii... Seasonal trade conditions should remain over Hawaii through the weekend as a high pressure system over the Northeast Pacific remains in firm control. Meanwhile, Hurricane Lane now in the eastern tropical Pacific is forecast to intensify into a major hurricane. High pressure may gradually build to the north of the island over the next few days and the latest National Hurricane Center forecast tracks Lane to the south of the Big Island through midweek. This forecast is more in line with the ECMWF that offers a more southern track than the GFS/CMC/UKMET and a subset of GFS/CMC ensembles that show a tendency to turn more to the northwest closer to the state by the end of next week. Major Hurricane Lane will move into the Central Pacific Hurricane Center area of responsibility later this weekend. Expect at least deeper moisture and more frequent showers along with the possibility of a few squalls into especially the Big Island from middle to late next week as pressure gradients/winds increase between high pressure to the north and Lane. Please consult the latest forecast from the NHC and later the CPHC on this system. Schichtel
