Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 804 AM EDT Fri Sep 07 2018 Valid 00Z Sat Sep 08 2018 - 00Z Sat Sep 15 2018 Hurricane Norman is still projected to skirt to the north of the Hawai'ian island chain. Because of the proximity of this storm, enhanced northerly winds are expected along the front facing coastlines today and Saturday. This will likely create dangerous surf conditions; however, this seems to be the primary threat from Norman. Behind Norman, Hurricane Olivia will continue a west-northwest track toward the islands. By midweek, the 00Z ECMWF/CMC and 06Z GFS all show Olivia, though in a weakened state, to move over the Hawai'ian Islands. The ECMWF and CMC bring the center farther north toward Maui and Moloka'i, whereas the GFS bring it over the Big Island. The UK Met is the most southern solution--bringing the center of Olivia well south of the Big Island. In terms of the 00Z ECENS/CMC ensemble and 06Z GEFS, each of these show the weakened state of Olivia tracking near the Big Island. As Olivia approaches, rain chances will increase beginning Tuesday--along with gusty winds. Reinhart
