Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 825 AM EDT Sun Oct 07 2018 Valid 00Z Mon Oct 08 2018 - 00Z Mon Oct 15 2018 Overall, models agree on the large scale pattern as a the high pressure centered over the eastern Pacific will build across the islands over the next few days--with a surface trough to the west of the islands. Later in the week, the ridge will weaken as a mid level low pushes southward from the north Pacific. However, the corresponding surface front will stay well north of Hawai'i. As such, the center of Walaka will continue moving farther north away from the islands, leaving higher PW values in its wake. This PW axis will stay well west of the islands. However, some higher PW anomalies could impact the Big Island and Maui today, bringing heavier showers to these islands. Dry conditions will follow by the beginning of the work week; as the surface high pressure builds in, trade winds will begin to re-strengthen. This will encourage windward showers throughout the week. By the end of the week and into the weekend, trade winds will become lighter which will give way to lessening precipitation chances. Reinhart
