Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 829 AM EDT Wed Oct 31 2018 Valid 00Z Thu Nov 01 2018 - 00Z Thu Nov 08 2018 ...Heavy rain threat ending for Hawai'i today... An upper level trough and its associated surface cold front will linger adjacent to the Hawai'ian islands today. This will encourage higher PWs across the island chain along with a marginally unstable atmosphere. Showers with embedded thunderstorms will yield to moderate to heavy rain may lead to flash flooding particularly if any training occurs. However, the heavy rain threat will diminish by later today as the upper level trough lifts to the northeast. Thereafter, expect height rises across the region as high pressure builds in and trade winds return with typical light showers associated with these. By Friday night into Saturday morning, ensembles continue to show an upper level low pinching off from the upper level trough to the northeast near 30N/145W. This low will drift southwest over Hawaii through the weekend into the beginning of next week before drifting back eastward on Tuesday. This may boost chances of rainfall for the Big Island while weakening trades over the eastern islands through the weekend and Monday. Reinhart
