Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 716 AM EST Wed Nov 28 2018 Valid 00Z Thu Nov 29 2018 - 00Z Thu Dec 06 2018 Strong upper-level ridging (with 500 mb heights as much as 2.5 standard deviations above normal), along with breezy trade winds, will weaken over Hawaii ahead of an anomalous trough/upper low and attendant cold front moving in by the end of the week. The cold front will usher in moist and unstable air resulting in increased shower activity with locally heavy rainfall possible through Saturday. Isolated thunderstorms cannot be ruled out either. The front will clear the island chain from northwest to southeast as the upper trough slides into the eastern Pacific. After Saturday, heights are expected to build back again with breezy trades resuming and veering back to east-northeasterly and continuing through the middle of next week. Despite the normal differences in the details, models show decent agreement on the overall synoptic pattern over Hawaii for the next week. Santorelli
