Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 729 AM EST Wed Dec 05 2018 Valid 00Z Thu Dec 06 2018 - 00Z Thu Dec 13 2018 High pressure has settled across the state--with winds dwindling from yesterday. However, most areas should remain on the dry side. Models indicate an upper level trough will approach the area by Thursday. This will bring the tail end of a front north of the islands Friday morning. Moisture associated with the frontal boundary will pass over the islands through the weekend with precipitable water values increasing to 1-1.3 on Friday into Saturday. As a result, an increase in precipitation as well as breezy winds could be possible. By the beginning of next week, typical trade winds/windward favored showers will return as high pressure builds back into the area. On Wednesday, the 00Z ECMWF/06Z GFS and their ensemble means show another increase in precipitable water values as the upper ridge weakens over Hawai'i. Overall, models and their associated ensemble means are in good agreement for the overall pattern so prefer a composite solution. Reinhart
