Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 707 AM EST Sat Dec 08 2018 Valid 00Z Sun Dec 09 2018 - 00Z Sun Dec 16 2018 A series of surface highs tracking to the north of the state will support persistent and brisk to strong trades. Showers will focus over windward terrain but may occasionally stray into leeward locations. Precipitable water values will generally be lower than climatology with rainfall mostly in the light to moderate part of the spectrum. There may be locally enhanced activity this weekend into the start of next week, with an initial front sagging southward over the main islands and a modest trailing band of moisture. The GFS/ECMWF and their means agree that lowest precipitable water values (below one inch) are most likely from about late Thursday into Saturday. Trades will likely be strongest Sunday into early Tuesday as the first surface high passes by to the north. A front passing by to the north behind this high will relax the pressure gradient somewhat around midweek. The next surface high to the north around Thursday does not seem to tighten the gradient over the state but could still strengthen trades a bit, while guidance shows another high to the north by next Saturday.
