Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 715 AM EST Wed Dec 12 2018 Valid 00Z Thu Dec 13 2018 - 00Z Thu Dec 20 2018 Several sub-tropical highs will pass to the north of the state over the course of the week which will support strong trade winds and mostly dry conditions. Guidance shows precipitable water values generally between 0.50 to 0.80 inch through Wednesday, with intermittent impulses of 1.0 to 1.2 inches. This should keep most shower activity on the lighter half of the spectrum and favoring the windward terrain, with some rainfall occasionally straying over into leeward locations. An upper-level trough and surface cold front is forecast to approach the state by late Monday/Tuesday, which will lead to significant weakening of the trades from Sunday into Monday, with enhanced shower activities and winds shifting to more northerly directions on Tuesday.
