Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 728 AM EST Wed Jan 02 2019 Valid 00Z Thu Jan 03 2019 - 00Z Thu Jan 10 2019 Models and ensembles continue to show excellent agreement that Hawaii will remain under the influence of an upper-level subtropical ridge through early next week. Meanwhile, an upper-level low is forecast to be nearly stationary well to the east of Hawaii and should have little to no impact on the local weather in Hawaii. Other than a few terrain-induced showers, relatively dry conditions will prevail through early next week under fresh to strong easterly winds as a couple of surface high pressure systems continue to supply dry air from higher latitudes. Winds should be the strongest on Friday and Saturday as the next high pressure center passes by to the north. By early next week, the winds should moderate as the pressure gradient relaxes ahead of a cold front. Models show good agreement that the front will become stationary while gradually dissipating north of the islands Tuesday into Wednesday. Some increase in available moisture should raise the chance of showers across the region. Meanwhile, another cold front will appear to approach Hawaii later on Wednesday from the northwest. Kong
