Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 710 AM EST Thu Mar 07 2019 Valid 00Z Fri Mar 08 2019 - 00Z Fri Mar 15 2019 Expect brisk/strong trades from late this week into early Monday as high pressure approaching from the west replaces a leading surface high initially north of the state, and then settles into a position northeast of the main islands. Trades should weaken to moderate levels after Monday with a cold front passing by to the north and trailing high pressure tending to weaken as it moves along. Overall today's guidance appears to have trended a bit more sheared and suppressed with weak shortwave energy initially over the area, while a separate piece of energy tracks well southwest of the main islands. By Monday-Tuesday an upstream shortwave will likely eject lingering energy and the overall trough should track east of the area by next Wednesday-Thursday. Models agree well with this scenario and exhibit only minor detail differences that have low predictability at distant time frames. The general upper level weakness over the region through the first part of next week could enhance shower activity a little but continue to expect most totals to be on the lighter side as precipitable water values remain near to below normal. Rainfall will focus over favored windward terrain but could occasionally stray into leeward locales while trades are strongest. Rausch
