Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 825 AM EDT Sat Apr 06 2019 Valid 00Z Sun Apr 07 2019 - 00Z Sun Apr 14 2019 A cold front will approach the area from the northwest tomorrow and likely stall over Kauai with precipitable water values between 1.00-1.30 inches. Boundary will dissipate early next week with mainly light showers over associated with it. Near to below average PW values are forecast as trades increase next week in a more typical pattern. By next Tue/Wed, ensembles still show an upper low to the east of the area with better clustering east of 150W as of 12Z Thu. However, with upper ridging bridging from the Dateline through 30N/160W and continuing to the northeast, this may act to retrograde the upper low westward into the eastern islands Fri/Sat next week. This would increase the chance of rainfall to at least the Big Island and Maui as deeper tropical moisture may get wrapped in from the southeast. This may pose a heavy rain threat next weekend.
