Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 809 AM EDT Wed May 29 2019 Valid 00Z Thu May 30 2019 - 00Z Thu Jun 06 2019 The models indicate a strong and persistent deep layer anticyclone northeast of the islands that builds north of the islands the latter half of this week through the weekend, persisting into early next week. Weak trade winds today start to increase Thursday and Friday as the high building north of the islands increases the low level pressure gradient. Moderate trades then continue through the weekend into early next week. With precipitable water values near average for late May/early June, mainly windward/mauka showers are expected with light to occasionally moderate amounts over the next week. With the persistent ridge, areas of drier air aloft will develop so there will be potential for pockets of drier air to move across the island during the early to middle portions of next week. Models/ensembles remain in good agreement overall on the height/pressure patterns. Petersen
