Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 755 AM EDT Wed Jun 12 2019 Valid 00Z Thu Jun 13 2019 - 00Z Thu Jun 20 2019 A broad upper-level weakness in ridging across the Central Pacific is expected to persist across Hawaii through late in the week as a stationary surface front washes out west of the state. This pattern should keep 10-20 kt trades in place. Models show general consensus that an easterly wave should approach the eastern islands by Fri night, accompanied by an increase in gusty trades as well as an increase in PWs. The deepest moisture (PWs of 1.5-2.0 inches) should primarily affect the Big Island and Maui, which should see an increase in shower activity through the weekend as the wave passes to the south. In the wake of the wave, expect moderate and occasionally gusty trades to persist through the middle of next week, with relatively limited moisture keeping showers relatively isolated windward and mauka showers.
