Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 823 AM EDT Mon Jun 17 2019 Valid 00Z Tue Jun 18 2019 - 00Z Tue Jun 25 2019 A large surface high builds to the northeast of Hawai'i for the beginning of the week as a large scale trough drops southward from the Aleutians, and another high becomes anchored in place near 165E. An inverted surface trough develops in the general vicinity of 160W early in the week in response to the building upper level trough, supporting a quasi-stationary frontal zone and surface low to the northwest of the state. There will likely be a second inverted trough developing by Friday in the same general vicinity as the earlier one, and may be stronger and have more of an effect on surface winds, based on the latest GEFS and EC mean solutions. There is also the potential for a cut-off upper low developing in conjunction with this. It appears that the greatest moisture flux ahead of these disturbances should remain northwest of the state through the upcoming week, with the western-most islands having an increased chance of showers. Elsewhere, expect typical trade wind showers across the favored terrain through the week. Hamrick
