Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 821 AM EDT Wed Jul 03 2019 Valid 00Z Thu Jul 04 2019 - 00Z Thu Jul 11 2019 Lighter than usual trade winds will develop as a weak, low level trough drifts west of the state. A few showers will generate in the lee of the mountains and over locations where sea breeze lift occurs. By the end of the week, and through the weekend, the trade winds will increase as mid-level ridge build north of the islands. With sporadic enhancements of moisture passing through, isolated to scattered windward showers are likely in a fairly typical trade wind pattern. Hurricane Barbara, located hundreds of miles east of the Islands, is forecast to track northwest through Friday evening then more westward over the weekend. The current projection has it weakening to a Tropical Depression near 18N, 148W by Sunday night. The guidance continues to show typical spread for this evolution as it either approaches the islands or gets suppressed to the south. This system will have to be watched going forward for its potential impacts on the islands. Campbell
