Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 809 AM EDT Mon Jul 15 2019 Valid 00Z Tue Jul 16 2019 - 00Z Tue Jul 23 2019 A strong upper high to the north of the region (near 160W and close to 6000m) will slide eastward this week to about 145W and weaken. This will allow easterly flow aloft to carry a mid-level trough over Hawai'i with enhanced periods of showers and breezy trades as the surface high strengthens to about 1031-1032mb tomorrow/Wednesday. The ensembles and recent 06Z GFS/00Z ECMWF forecast a rise in precipitable water values to about 1.75 inches around 00Z-12Z Friday (due in part to the remnants of TD 4-E) as the wave passes. Otherwise, precipitable water values near or slightly above average will favor a fairly typical trade wind pattern that favors windward/mauka areas as the upper high reorganizes to the northwest of the state.
