Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 823 AM EDT Fri Aug 2 2019 Valid 00Z Sat Aug 3 2019 - 00Z Sat Aug 10 2019 The general flow pattern features a slow moving deep layer cyclone in the general vicinity of 40 degrees north for much of next week as a rex block develops over the North Pacific. The guidance is in good agreement with this low, including the ensemble means, so a general model compromise should suffice for the main synoptic scale features. This system will help guide and weaken the tropical cyclones near Hawai'i over the next several days. The National Hurricane Center is continuing to issue advisories for Tropical Storm Flossie, which is forecast to approach the main islands late Sunday and Monday before passing to the north of the state while weakening. There is ongoing potential for another episode of heavy rainfall in a more Kona trajectory (south to southwest flow) and enhanced winds and high waves. Away from the two tropical systems expect a moist trade wind pattern with the heaviest rain likely for windward terrain. Mid-latitude high pressure should weaken for a time in response to an east-central Pacific low. Eastern Pacific high pressure should expand toward the middle of next week, supporting moderate trades immediately behind Flossie. Hamrick/Roth
