Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 830 AM EDT Sun Oct 13 2019 Valid 00Z Mon Oct 14 2019 - 00Z Mon Oct 21 2019 Tropical Storm Ema was located near 22.2N 165.4W at 09 UTC and packs sustained winds of 35 knots with gusts to 45 knots. Ema is forecast to move northwest to remain well away from the Hawaiian Islands. Ema offers a maritime threat and small craft advisories remain in effect offshore the central and southern islands. Please consult the latest advisories from the Central Pacific Hurricane Center and the Honolulu National Weather Service forecast office. In the wake of Ema, much drier air and ridging aloft has moved over the state. Beyond the weekend expect the upper ridge to settle northwest/north of the region. Flow around this ridge will bring in pockets of moisture from the northeast as well as push a weakening cold front close to the main islands into midweek. Post-frontal high pressure will build strongly to the north then northeast of the state in a pattern favoring return of increasing island trades. There should be a modest increase in windward-focused showers next week as moisture increases under a mean weakness aloft. Schichtel
