Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 824 AM EDT Mon Oct 14 2019 Valid 00Z Tue Oct 15 2019 - 00Z Tue Oct 22 2019 Post-Tropical Cyclone Ema was located near 25.4N 168.3W at 09 UTC and has sustained winds of 30 knots with gusts to 40 knots. Ema is forecast to continue to track northwestward, increasingly away from the Hawaiian Islands. Ema still offers a maritime threat and small craft advisories remain in effect offshore the central and southern islands. In the wake of Ema, much drier air and ridging aloft has moved over the state. Beyond the weekend expect the upper ridge to settle northwest/north of the state. Flow around this ridge will bring in pockets of moisture from the northeast while pushing a weakening cold front with some enhanced shower potential to the islands into Wed/Thu under a weakness aloft. Post-frontal high pressure will build strongly to the north then northeast of the state later week into next week in a pattern favoring return of increasing island trades with modest daily windward terrain focusing showers under a re-emerging ridge aloft.
