Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 710 AM EST Sun Nov 03 2019 Valid 00Z Mon Nov 04 2019 - 00Z Mon Nov 11 2019 A surface cold front passing through Kauai will stall near the Kaieiewaho Channel through Monday. With precipitable water values near and just over 1.50 inches around the front, shower activity will be enhanced into Oahu but with generally light to modest amounts. Hi-res models show 0.50 - 1.00 inches of rain which may or may not stay over the channel. Southeasterly flow into the Big Island will favor southeastward-facing areas there with some locally heavier rain over one inch. The front will slowly dissipate as the upper low to the north pulls away. Heights will rise starting Wednesday as trades resume a more typical easterly to east-northeasterly direction. By Friday into Saturday, another trough will take a front southeastward toward Kauai by late Saturday. The models disagree on how far south to take the front and whether or not a surface wave may develop to enhance the rainfall over at least the northwest islands. For now, a consensus position between the GFS/ECMWF should suffice which clusters near the ensemble consensus as well. Fracasso
