Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 254 AM EST Mon Dec 09 2019 Valid 00Z Tue Dec 10 2019 - 00Z Tue Dec 17 2019 ...Wet Flow Returns Late Week into the Weekend... Guidance supports a generally dry stretch of weather through midweek in a pattern with land/sea breezes under stabilizing ridging aloft. A front now approaching Kauai underneath energetic westerlies to the north should stall/weaken, with most moisture/rainfall offshore. Another front is slated to reach the state from the northwest Thursday with supporting upper trough amplification. This front should have enough push to work across the islands. Model and ensemble forecasts have become better clustered with this feature, bolstering forecast confidence. A favored guidance concensus indicates that frontal approach offers a risk of increased lead moisture pooling to fuel an enhanced rainfall risk into Friday, with activity lingering over the weekend as weakened upper trough/low energy settles just west of the islands and as a lower atmospheric inverted trough sets over the state. Post-frontal high pressure bridging to the north then northeast of the islands will usher in moderate to breezy trades Friday through the weekend that would transition rainfall focus into favored terrain.
