Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 828 AM EDT Sat Sep 27 2014 Valid 00Z Sun Sep 28 2014 - 00Z Sun Oct 05 2014 In a similar scenario as described yesterday based from a favored model and ensemble composite blend, upper ridging and surface high pressure currently to the northeast of Hawaii will ease eastward and weaken through the weekend, with slowly weakening trades. Next week, the potent extratropical remains of tropical storm Kammuri in the west Pacific should be entrained into the westerlies along 40N and an in situ upper low lifting from the south of the Aleutians up toward the Gulf of Alaska. Some trade response at lower latitudes underneath could lead to more widespread than average moisture/showers over the islands next week with higher than average PW values between 1.50-1.75" or so, but models/ensembles do keep the mid-latitude based cold front northwest of the state through the forecast period.
