The global numerical guidance continues to indicate a switch from
polar westerlies to tropical easterlies in the flow across Hawai'i
during the next week. The energetic trough sharpening to the east
of the islands this weekend will turn the surface winds to the
north--bringing an abrupt end to the focused,
baroclinically-driven showers of late. By early Friday, the first
return-flow, tropical moisture should begin to lift across the Big
Island, with the entire state in the thick of the humid air by
Saturday. Before then, preciously few showers are
anticipated--likely into the middle of next week even once warm
advection begins. Next Saturday and Sunday look showery statewide,
with many locations receiving a half-inch to one inch of rainfall.
