Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 703 AM EST Sun Jan 04 2015 Valid 00Z Mon Jan 05 2015 - 00Z Mon Jan 12 2015 Today's guidance again shows reasonably good agreement with the forecast through the next seven days. In the wake of an anomalously vigorous system, strong northwesterly winds will trend lighter and turn more from the north over the next day, and then from the northeast with the passage of a weak and relatively dry front during the Mon night-Tue time frame. Trailing high pressure passing to the north of the state will maintain moderate trades through the middle of the week. Low level winds should be lighter and more from the southeast late this week into the weekend as the high reaches the eastern Pacific. One front may approach but likely not quite reach the northwestern islands Fri-Sat while a stronger upstream front should still be fairly far removed from the area by next Sun. At that time GFS/parallel GFS runs bring this latter front slightly farther eastward than other guidance. Still the differences are rather small for a day 7 forecast. Any showers during the period should be relatively light, especially from now through Fri when precipitable water values are forecast to be below an inch and at times perhaps even below 0.75 inch. There may be a modest increase in moisture next weekend but thus far there is not a clear signal as to what extent. Rausch
