Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 720 AM EST Fri Jan 16 2015 Valid 00Z Sat Jan 17 2015 - 00Z Sat Jan 24 2015 Latest data shows maintainence of a well defined mid-latitude storm track focused north of the state. This runs overtop an east-west oriented mid-upper level ridge centered just south of the Hawaiian Islands. Trades are disrupted in this pattern over much of the next week. Model and ensemble forecast spread and uncertainty seems quite low over the next week and show passage of lead impulses aloft is supporting surface frontal system and shower approach into the western islands today into this weekend. Pacific flow amplification is expected to force a second frontal approach to the state in about a week. This more amplified system would offer increased potential for the return of deeper moisture and heavier rainfall. Schichtel
