After Guillermo clears the islands to the northwest tonight, a
period of weak trades is indicated by the models through the
weekend. A col in the flow around the state next week will tend to
slow the westward progression of features, trapping moisture and
energy in a broad, sluggish, cyclonic gyre. Hilda is progged to be
thus deflected east of Hawai'i on Tuesday by the National
Hurricane Center. The cyclone's fate thereafter is greatly muddled
by the presence of the col, with the disparate handling of the
system by the most recent GFS and ECMWF testament to the issue at
hand. Five-day QPF through 00Z/15 Saturday is generally a tenth-
to a quarter-inch, with the usual higher amounts in the terrain.
