The global numerical models indicate that the interface between
the polar westerlies and the tropical easterlies will hover near
Hawai'i for much of the next week. The trades are progged to gain
a bit of ground by the end of this weekend, when the circulation
associated with current Tropical Depression Twelve-E approaches
from the southeast. Forecasting the fate of tropical systems near
Hawai'i this summer has been a dicey affair at best. The 06Z/25
GFS tracks the deep-layer moisture with Twelve-E across the Big
Island Sunday, so it is wetter than the ECMWF which avoids the
islands to the northeast. Five-day QPF through 00Z/31 Monday is
generally a quarter- to half-inch statewide,  with the usual
higher amounts over the terrain, particularly Mauna Loa.
