Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 754 AM EDT Sun Sep 06 2015 Valid 00Z Mon Sep 07 2015 - 00Z Mon Sep 14 2015 Most elements of the forecast have maintained continuity over the past day. During the first part of the week the northwestern islands should remain in the greatest deep moisture as represented by precipitable water values of near to slightly greater than two inches versus 1.75 inches or slightly less toward the Big Island. Relatively light winds should allow for land/sea breeze influence on any shower activity that occurs. Consult Central Pacific Hurricane Center products for latest information regarding Tropical Storm Jimena. Currently Jimena is forecast to track to the north of the islands by Wed-Thu as it slowly weakens but there remains some spread in the guidance as to exactly how close to the islands Jimena tracks. The idea of increased moisture and thus potential for areas of heavier rainfall appears somewhat less sensitive to the exact track of Jimena. With the departure of Jimena, the Fri-Sun period should see a trend to moderate/brisk southeasterly winds in association with flow around eastern Pacific high pressure and a sharpening frontal boundary developing over the central Pacific. In this time frame rainfall should become more terrain focused. Rausch
