Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 826 AM EDT Tue Oct 06 2015 Valid 00Z Wed Oct 07 2015 - 00Z Wed Oct 14 2015 The Central Pacific Hurricane Center (CPHC) indicates that tropical storm Oho is gaining hurricane strength while spinning just southeast of the Big Island near 15.2N/152.6W at 09 UTC. Oho is forecast to track north-northeastward to pass just east of the islands tomorrow before lifting increasingly away from the state. Tropical moisture associated with Oho is expected to continue to wrap into the Big Island with this close passage. This may combine with a lingering old island boundary and terrain to fuel potential for some locally heavy anchoring rains. Expect a more limited moisture/rainfall modest trade pattern will develop across the state in the wake of Oho for the rest of this week. Models and ensembles then show good clustering with the idea of digging a mid-upper level trough northwest then potentially over the islands early next week. This would act to force deeper lower lattitude moisture back up into the state to fuel some lead dynamicallly enhanced showers in advance of an associated cold frontal approach. Schichtel
