Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 830 AM EDT Wed Oct 07 2015 Valid 00Z Thu Oct 08 2015 - 00Z Thu Oct 15 2015 The Central Pacific Hurricane Center (CPHC) indicates that Hurricane Oho was located east of the islands near 20.4N/147.2W at 09 UTC. Oho is lifting north-northeastward and increasingly away from the state. Expect a quite limited moisture/rainfall/trade pattern to develop across the state in the wake of Oho Thursday into the weekend. Models and ensembles then dig a mid-upper level trough to the northwest then just north/into of the islands early to mid next week. The 00 UTC ECMWF/Canadian offer a more diggy/closer trough aloft than the 00/06 UTC GFS or 00 UTC UKMET. Prefer a more diggy solution given upstream ridge amplitude common to guidance. Overall, this would act to force deeper lower lattitude moisture back up into the state to fuel lead dynamicallly enhanced showers in advance of an associated cold frontal approach. Schichtel
