Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 703 AM EST Wed Dec 02 2015 Valid 00Z Thu Dec 03 2015 - 00Z Thu Dec 10 2015 Today's models and ensembles maintain good agreement on a typical trade wind pattern with light windward focused showers through the period. Strongest trades should be at the start of the period Wed-Thu as a surface high passes to the north of the state. Another high will be weakening as it reaches 170-160W longitude by Sat and likely have minimal impact on trades. By next week the strongest surface ridging will be over the eastern Pacific, placing the islands in the mere periphery of its influence. The relatively light rainfall in the forecast is consistent with below average precipitable water values, within a tenth or two of one inch at most times, and a mid level ridge along 20N latitude. By the latter half of the period guidance continues to show this ridge gradually strengthening and eventually closing off a high to the northeast of the islands. Rausch
