Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 728 AM EST Sat Dec 05 2015 Valid 00Z Sun Dec 06 2015 - 00Z Sun Dec 13 2015 The Hawai`ian islands will remain under the control of a broad 588-dm upper ridge which confines the active and progressive mid-latitude pattern well to the north. This will ultimately keep all discernible frontal boundaries out of Hawai`i throughout the period. The surface pattern is forecast to maintain surface ridging to the north and east which will support persistent east-southeast trade winds. Models suggest an enhancement in these winds by the middle of next week with guidance showing 30 knots of flow. In terms of precipitation, it should be rather quiet given the more diminished moisture content with precipitable waters in the 0.75 to 1 inch range. Expect spotty showers and thunderstorms developing in the presence of sufficient heating and over the usual elevated heating sources. Rubin-Oster
