Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 702 AM EST Thu Dec 17 2015 Valid 00Z Fri Dec 18 2015 - 00Z Fri Dec 25 2015 Latest guidance agrees that surface high pressure settling to the north and then northeast of the state will support brisk trades into at least the first part of next week. The surface gradient could weaken a bit around the middle of next week so winds may not be quite as strong at that time. During the period GFS/ECMWF runs depict precipitable water values generally in a range between slightly under an inch and a little over 1.25 inches. Depending on evolution of energy curling around the southern side of an upper high to the north of the state, the northern fringe of greater deep moisture at lower latitudes could drift close to the Big Island toward Wed. Earlier in the period another piece of energy will support a frontal remnant that could also focus shower activity somewhat. Overall expect rainfall to be focused primarily though not exclusively to windward terrain with highest totals likely over the Big Island. Rausch
