Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 703 AM EST Thu Dec 24 2015 Valid 00Z Fri Dec 25 2015 - 00Z Fri Jan 01 2016 Models and ensembles reasonably agree that an upper low now east of the Big Island will continue to slowly move eastward over the next few days, but an upper trough axis is forecast to linger over the region through the weekend and early next week. At the surface, a frontal boundary will approach the NW islands on Christmas day, but weaken as high pressure moves in behind it along 33N. This should bring in breezy conditions to the islands. PW values are expected to rise slightly ahead of the front or shear axis and then decrease after Monday. Rainfall should be light to modest, favoring windward/terrain areas. Later, mid-upper level trough passage to the north of the state in active flow should again allow a surface front with enhanced showers approach the NW islands heading into the New Year. Schichtel
