Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 729 AM EST Fri Jan 01 2016 Valid 00Z Sat Jan 02 2016 - 00Z Sat Jan 09 2016 An active and progressive Pacific storm track holds the bulk of energy north of Hawaii for the first week of 2016. However, the flow will periodically effect the Hawaiian Islands underneath. A southeastward approach of a front into the state will ring in the new year today. An additional slow frontal approach to the state is expected during early next week with a lingering presence prior to yet another possible late next week frontal approach. These shower and moisture focusing features are supported as a series of low systems pass to the north in the energetic mid-latitude based flow slated to significantly amplify during the period. The late week frontal surge has the potential to be the strongest given flow amplitude by then in a favored composite of compatable model and ensemble guidance. Schichtel
