Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 835 AM EDT Thu Mar 17 2016 Valid 00Z Fri Mar 18 2016 - 00Z Fri Mar 25 2016 Latest guidance remains in good agreement of a high pressure system passing to the north and east of the islands through the weekend into Monday. The cold front that has already passed to the south of the islands has become stationary. Showers associated with the front should generally be south of the Big Island. However, as the high moves farther to the east and surface winds turn more southerly, increasing moisture is expected to return by Sunday into Monday with an increasing chance of showers over the Big Island. As we get into midweek next week, models are in good agreement that a cold front will arrive with a band of heavier showers moving across from west to east from Wednesday to Thursday. While previous runs of ECMWF have indicated a sharper and deeper upper trough associated with this front, it has trended quicker with the system's ejection to the northeast in agreement with most of the other current guidance.
