Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 830 AM EDT Tue Apr 05 2016 Valid 00Z Wed Apr 06 2016 - 00Z Wed Apr 13 2016 Latest satellite imagery and Ocean Prediction Center analysis shows a well defined front now just NW of Kauai as supported with approach of an amplified mid-upper level trough. This scenario was well forecast by most guidance at least a week in advance along with the prospect of the precipitation and moisture pooling front moving across the islands today into Wednesday, including some heavier local downpours. Frontal moisture is expected to stall near the Big Island and remain poised for return back across the state. High pressure and secondary cells will bridge to the north of Hawaii and support extended periods of moderate to breezy post-frontal trades Wednesday/Thursday and again with another surge from the weekend into early next week. This should favor a pattern with windward terrain enhanced showers aided with return moisture from the weakened lead frontal band and also with possible impulse passage aloft between the surges around Friday that could support more widespread shower activity.
