Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 815 AM EDT Thu Apr 07 2016 Valid 00Z Fri Apr 08 2016 - 00Z Fri Apr 15 2016 Models and ensembles indicate that the moisture axis associated with the tail end of a cold front slowly lift back toward the northwestern islands into Friday. Precipitation will slowly wane as available moisture decreases, especially by Sunday. The ensembles indicate surface high pressure to move eastward along 30N Sat-Wed and strengthen with time. GFS/GEFS were a bit quicker to strengthen the high than the ECMWF/ECENS mean due to timing differences toward Alaska. A multi-model/ensemble blend should suffice as both ensemble systems remain very close with respect to the increase in ridging over Hawai'i next Tue-Thu. Trades will be on the increase next week as the gradient increases due to the modestly strong high pressure/gradient, peaking around Wednesday. Fracasso
