Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 825 AM EDT Mon Jul 04 2016 Valid 00Z Tue Jul 05 2016 - 00Z Tue Jul 12 2016 The 7 day forecast for Hawaii looks relatively tranquil while a couple tropical cyclone do not appear to pose to impact the state during this period. Precipitable water values at least indicated by the operational GFS start out about 1.5 inches and then remain between 1.5 and 1.75 inches through Wednesday before falling to around 1.25 inches from Wednesday through Sunday, indicating some drying during this period. The trade wind regime is associated with a large sprawling surface 1033 to 1034 mb anticyclone near 40N 155W that then drifts slowly west to near 40N 160W by Thursday and then drifts slowly eastward to near 150W through the end of the forecast. At upper levels, Hawaii is located between two upper lows over the central Pacific with the eastern low drifting westward to just north of the Islands by next weekend. The various model and ensemble qpf forecasts have a pretty consistent look to them on all forecast days with no daily enhancements yet evident on any of the higher resolution model runs so a fairly typical trade wind regime remains in order. There are the potential for tropical cyclogenesis that remain well east of the Islands through the period. Please refer to the Central Pacific and National Hurricane Centers for any possible updates on these systems. Kocin
