Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 804 AM EDT Tue Jul 12 2016 Valid 00Z Wed Jul 13 2016 - 00Z Wed Jul 20 2016 North Pacific pattern will be unusually retrogressive during the next week in response to ridges building through the central CONUS and between Alaska and Hawai'i. This upper high will move westward from about 140W to near 160W Friday-Tuesday along 40-43N. Subtropical ridging to the SW of the area will slowly ease westward along 20N per the ensembles, allowing a weakness aloft to pass through the region early next week. Farther east, Hurricane Celia and a new tropical depression (5E) are forecast to head westward over the next week. For the next several days, a generally quiet/typical pattern is expected except for the remnants of once-Hurricane Blas -- its moisture is forecast to pass through the region Thu/Fri though the recent GFS runs are wetter than the ECMWF. The latest National Hurricane Center track for Celia takes it to near 150W by late Sat/early Sun. After that, Celia is forecast to track just north of Hawai'i per the ensembles which will likely lead to a wetter couple of days Mon-Tue. Please refer to the NHC (or CPHC) for the latest official forecasts. Fracasso
