Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 800 AM EDT Sun Sep 04 2016 Valid 00Z Mon Sep 05 2016 - 00Z Mon Sep 12 2016 ...Tropical Storm Lester moving away from the Hawaiian islands... Satellite imagery shows Tropical Storm Lester moving away from the Hawaiian Islands. The Central Pacific Hurricane Center (CHPC) tracks Lester to the northwest of the state today then into the northeast Pacific midweek. Lingering trailing tropical moisture today into early Mon will swing east to west across the state to support an increased rainfall threat. Please stay tuned to the CPHC and WFO Honolulu for updated Lester info. The models and ensembles reasonably agree that the weather pattern returns to more typical flow regime for much of the upcoming week in the wake of Lester highlighted by a building upper/surface ridge northeast of the islands and moderate mean trades. However, a possible upper-level weakness arriving by Thursday may result in an increase in windward terrain based showers into next weekend as moisture pools underneath the unsettling feature.
