Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 808 AM EDT Mon Oct 31 2016 Valid 00Z Tue Nov 01 2016 - 00Z Tue Nov 08 2016 Expect a trend toward drier weather as an upper level weakness over the area continues to move south and the eastern periphery of a strong upper ridge to the northwest drifts toward/over the islands by midweek. This drier regime, with precipitable water values tending to hover around one inch, should last at least through Saturday. By next Sunday-Monday there will be two features of interest. One will be an area of enhanced moisture that may approach from the east. Current guidance suggests that higher PWATs should not extend much beyond the Big Island. At the same time a strong Pacific system will send a front toward the state. This front may approach the northwestern islands around next Monday, and depending on southward progression could have an influence on how much moisture from the east reaches the islands around or just beyond the end of the forecast period. Into the weekend a series of surface highs within a general mean ridge to the north of the state will maintain trades of moderate to brisk strength. Winds should generally be a little stronger early-mid week versus late week and beyond. Rausch
