Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 725 AM EST Thu Nov 24 2016 Valid 00Z Fri Nov 25 2016 - 00Z Fri Dec 02 2016 Elevated trades will persist for a couple more days as the pressure gradient weakens over the region. Ensembles show the upper high rebuilding well to the northeast of Hawai'i Sun/Mon to then be squashed and replaced by another upper high along 150W near 35N by next Thursday. This will help to gradually lower heights over the area from the east but also perhaps from the west as the tail end of an upper trough may move eastward toward 165W. The ECMWF/Canadian lie to the east of the GFS but the east-west ensemble spread still remains large. Either way, the ensembles indicate the QPF axis to remain west of the islands next week (for now). In the interim, generally light to modest precipitation, especially in windward locations but also into the leeward side due to the stronger trades, are expected. Fracasso
