Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 730 AM EST Mon Dec 05 2016 Valid 00Z Tue Dec 06 2016 - 00Z Tue Dec 13 2016 ...Wet weather to continue across the state of Hawai`i With a persistent mid/upper-level ridge anchoring the subtropical eastern Pacific, general southwesterly flow will dominate across the Hawai`ian island chain. This is forecast to keep conditions wet for much of the week, particularly across the southern most islands, where the highest precipitable water air pools over the region. Recent runs of the European model show above 2 inch values across the Big Island with even some local maxima possibly approaching 2.25 inches. While mid-latitude solutions vary considerably with placement and timing, the general idea of mid-level southwesterly flow is a common solution suggesting reasonably high confidence in the synoptic regime. Thus, expect a persistent threat for rainfall throughout the period accompanied by the usual trade wind driven showers given occasionally moderate trades this week. Rubin-Oster
