Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 724 AM EST Tue Dec 27 2016 Valid 00Z Wed Dec 28 2016 - 00Z Wed Jan 04 2017 Ensembles remain in good agreement on the blocky longwave pattern across the Pacific over the next week. Over the next couple of days, strong surface high pressure will push eastward along 40N which will keep trades stronger than average. An anticyclonic wave breaking-induced closed low is forecast to form between the Gulf of Alaska and Hawai'i later this week but remain just north of 30N and around 150W into next week. That will keep the region under NW upper flow and generally northerly flow at the surface. Tail end of a cold front associated with the upper/sfc low to the north is expected to sink south of the area by this weekend. Pattern will start to break down next week but remain mostly on the dry side. Precipitable water values should remain near to below average values so generally light showers area expected with some local enhancements in perhaps non-typical areas due to northerly rather than easterly flow.
