Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 709 AM EST Fri Jan 06 2017 Valid 00Z Sat Jan 07 2017 - 00Z Sat Jan 14 2017 At least through midweek the overall forecast shows good continuity from yesterday. Northerly to northeasterly winds should prevail through Saturday between low pressure well to the northeast of the state and a north-south oriented surface ridge to the west/north. Then high pressure will become established to the east-northeast of the islands, turning winds more from the southeast on average. There is now better agreement from guidance that a front approaching the state Monday-Tuesday should stall before reaching the northwestern islands. This front will then lift northward in flow ahead of west-central Pacific low pressure. Most rainfall will likely be on the light side as precipitable water values remain near to somewhat below normal through midweek. Toward Thursday-Friday there is some spread in the guidance regarding a potential increase in moisture well ahead of a distant front, with GFS/GEFS-based solutions and the old 12z ECMWF generally showing higher PWATs than the 00z ECMWF.
