Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 707 AM EST Mon Jan 09 2017 Valid 00Z Tue Jan 10 2017 - 00Z Tue Jan 17 2017 Models and ensembles remain consistent and agreeable for the forecast through the next seven days. Eastern Pacific surface high pressure will extend a ridge axis across and beyond the islands. Guidance suggests this ridge axis may drift a little northward by next weekend/early next week. Based on this evolution, winds into late week should range from easterly or east-southeasterly near the Big Island to southerly over the northwestern islands. Some areas may see sufficiently light trade flow to promote land and sea breezes. Then from next weekend into early next week winds may become a little more uniform from the east/southeast. Multiple fronts will approach from the northwest but not reach the state. As forecast in recent days the first should achieve its greatest southeastward extent around 12z Tuesday before retreating northward. Then another front will come into the picture around Thursday-Friday. A trailing system will bring a third front as close as about 20N latitude during the weekend before it lifts northward due in part to a strengthening ridge over/southwest of the state late in the period. Within the relatively dry overall pattern the northwestern islands may see a little rainfall enhancement Thursday-Friday in association with a pocket of moisture ahead of the late week front. Rausch
