Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 723 AM EST Tue Jan 10 2017 Valid 00Z Wed Jan 11 2017 - 00Z Wed Jan 18 2017 Models and ensembles are in very good agreement with the forecast over the next seven days. Eastern Pacific surface high pressure will extend a ridge axis across and beyond the islands for the majority of the forecast. The high pressure is in response to short wave ridging north of the islands and a more large scale high over the tropical eastern Pacific. These two features will gel by this weekend up and down the west coast of the lower 48. Then by early next week, this ridging will yield to a rather strong 588dm ridge to build in from the west. Multiple fronts will attempt to approach from the northwest, as a flurry of strong pacific short waves track west to east over the pacific, but likely will not reach the state. Overall precipitation chances will be low with some windward/trade showers over the eastern portion of the Big Island and perhaps a few showers reaching Kauai, especially with the front approaching late this work week.
