Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 721 AM EST Wed Jan 11 2017 Valid 00Z Thu Jan 12 2017 - 00Z Thu Jan 19 2017 A very impressive mid-latitude trough over the central pacific will press downstream over the next few days to the east-northeast. The associated surface cold front with this large scale feature will attempt to approach and reach the Hawaiian Islands Thursday/Friday time-frame. A few enhanced showers ahead of the low level convergence might reach Kauai but a strong surface ridge building off the west coast and settling offshore of CA will prohibit the front ultimately reaching the state. Global models and ensembles show this scenario along with, a rather robust 588dm ridge building southwest of the state early next week. This upper ridge will eventually build and extend across the islands to allow more seasonable trades and relatively dry conditions. Musher
