Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 714 AM EST Tue Jan 17 2017 Valid 00Z Wed Jan 18 2017 - 00Z Wed Jan 25 2017 An impressive upper ridge of high pressure will be in control across Hawaii until this upcoming weekend. Global models and ensembles are in agreement with this 588-594dm dome of high pressure and this should keep the state relatively dry. This weekend a batch of upper dynamics over the pacific will amplify and drive a strong frontal zone toward the state. Most of the guidance show this digging upper trough and strong cold front, which passes through the entire chain of islands, but vary slightly on the progression. The 00z ecmwf appears a bit more progressive with the entire storm system, while the 06z gfs is a bit slower. In fact the latter, would stall the front near the Big Island late weekend/early next week and produce enhanced windward showers/rain. This scenario bears watching and is highly plausible. Musher
